Why I Ride

Growing up in the Gassert family you don’t have a choice about loving the sport of snowmobiling. Before I could walk my parents (Pete and Liz) would put us kids in a sleigh behind their snowmobiles for family outings. Not long after that us kids had our own Indy 120s. I remember my Dad building us boys a racetrack on the lake in front of our house. Many days the only time we would come back into the house was for some of Mom’s hot chocolate. Eventually, us kids grew older and had our own hobbies, friends, and school that kept us away from home. However, snowmobiles were always part of our lives. Snowmobiling was our mode of transportation and what we did for fun after school and sports. Most importantly family snowmobile trips for dinner any given weeknight kept us closer and are the memories I will cherish forever. I love snowmobiling.

While times were different, this is similar to the story my Dad has about his childhood. In fact, he loved snowmobiling and powersports so much he went out and started a business in 1991. Since then, he and his sister Terese have grown Duluth Lawn and Sport into the successful business it is today. I believe their success can be attributed to his clear passion for powersports and his desire to share that with our customers.

In 1999 the Black Woods Blizzard Tour was born. Pete and Duluth Lawn and Sport would join shortly after in 2000. Since then, this snowmobile fundraiser has raised millions of dollars for the fight against ALS.

I haven’t asked my Dad why he chose to join the Blizzard Tour. I imagine he joined because of his passion to share his love for snowmobiling with others especially in support of such a great cause. The most evident example is that many years Pete does not get to ride. Despite that, Pete is always the happiest when he hears about everyone’s experience on that day’s ride. For Pete and Duluth Lawn and Sport this event and all those involved have become our Blizzard Tour Family.

I am now blessed to have the opportunity to ride in the Duluth Lawn and Sport Circle Tour. This special ride is to honor the 25th anniversary of the Blizzard Tour and I could not be more proud to be a part of it.

Six of us will snowmobile around Lake Superior (roughly 2,000 miles) to bring awareness and attention to our cause: raising money for the fight against ALS.

Please follow, like and share our posts on Facebook Duluth Lawn and Sport ALS Circle Tour and most importantly donate to our cause.

Thank you,

Chris Gassert
